Chemical composition optimization of nanocomposites used for shed and core of outdoor composite insulators

Outdoor 24-kV power transmission insulators include two main pieces, namely, the shed and core. In this study, these pieces were manufactured separately by roll/hot pressing hand lay-up methods, respectively. Both core formed from polymer-based composites due to their low weight, high strength-to-weight ratio, higher moisture pollution resistance compared those of ceramic glass sheds. The sheds made silicone rubber as matrix alumina trihydrate (ATH) TiO 2 additives in single- double-filler composites. characterization tests included variable (max stability voltage) constant (dry, wet, notched max endurance voltage, well erosion) voltage tests, addition contact angle tests. results analyses demonstrated that reinforced with 5 wt.% was best material based on its hydrophobicity. insulator epoxy different fiber percentages (10, 13, 15 wt.%). manufacturing method lay-up.
